Phil Garretson

Luke 9:57-62

As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus[a] said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

“I have to be following Christ first before

I can possibly lead others.”

In the church, Phil’s greatest joy is teaching God’s word. Having pursued baseball and boxing earlier in life, Phil discovered that if you want to be good at anything, it helps to have a coach.  He turned from coaching baseball and boxing to coaching others through the scriptures, and hopes to encourage each student of The Word be all they can be.

Phil has been married to Lynna for 42 years. They have four children and 13 grandchildren.

Weather permitting, Phil will be pursuing his two favorite hobbies. Encouraging plant life through careful gardening or destroying plant life by golfing.

Phil is most grateful that God has saved him from, “my addiction to alcohol. It would’ve destroyed everything I love most.”

“God can use anyone and everyone somewhere in His kingdom. If you want to get involved, just ask!”
