When You Clothed Them, You Clothed Me

Rock Creek Bible Church wants to be a body of helpers. We’re made up of individuals who want to do what Christ would do, and that’s why we’re holding a clothing and food give away from 9 a.m. to noon on November 9 at the church building. We hope this will become a regular event that will allow us to serve those in our community who are in need, and also serve God in the process.

What it Will Look Like:

On November 9th we’ll have volunteers manning the food pantry and tables and racks filled with clothes. Anyone who shows up can take what they need, no questions asked. Our volunteers will help them load what they take in their cars, and we’ll hope and pray the blessings they received will help make life a little bit less stressful.

What We Need to Make it Happen:

To make this work we need donations and volunteers. Lots of both.

For clothing and linens we’ll take any new or lightly-worn clothes that have been washed and put in clean plastic bags. We won’t accept anything that is cleary dirty or that has a strong odor.

Guidelines for Acceptable Food:

  • Canned Meat or fish (tuna and other canned meat, such as chicken, stew, chili, salmon or corned beef)

  • Soup

  • Canned Fruits and Vegetables

  • Peanut Butter. High in protein, peanut butter figures prominently on the list of most needed food items in pantries across the country.

  • Pasta. Pasta or boxed pasta dinners, such as macaroni and cheese

  • Milk Products. Needed milk items include powdered milk, boxed puddings and cheese spreads.

  • Grain Products. brown rice, whole grain bread, bagels or muffins.

  • Cereal

  • Baby Food. Infant formula and baby food.

Volunteer and Drop Off Information:

We need volunteers to sort clothes ahead of the event into sizes and gender, and we need folks to sort the food by type, too. Then we need 10-12 people to set up the event on Friday, November 8, and another 10-12 people to tear it down after it’s over on Saturday.

We also need a very special group of volunteers to man the event itself. We need a group of kind-hearted helpers who just want to show love to those who walk through our doors. We need you to direct them, help them, carry their stuff, and just be loving servants.

All donations can be dropped off at the church between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. any day of the week. Donations should be dropped off at the south entrances by the basketball goals, and you’ll need to call 785.217.0737 on your way so we can unlock doors and help you unload.

If you have questions about anything regarding this day please contact Jonathan Runyan at 785.217.0737.
